Get V1.2 now.

SharePoint Portal Server 2001, Service Pack 2 (SP2+Hotfix or SP2a) is now supported by Accelerator.  We've also added some exciting new optimizations in the runtime that make the performance gains Accelerator for SPS 2001 delivers even more significant (details below).  This version also contains a roll-up of all refinements since V1.0.

There is no charge to upgrade from V1.0 or V1.1 to V1.2!  Read about how to upgrade.

New Features and Changes:

SharePoint Portal Server 2001, Service Pack 2 (SP2+Hotfix or SP2a) is now supported by Accelerator.  For Accelerator to operate properly on an SPS 2001 SP2+Hotfix or SPS 2001 SP2a server, Accelerator V1.2 is required.  Accelerator V1.2 will run properly on an SPS 2001 SP1 server as well.

Accelerator's background process now caches various Dashboard and folder-related security data that previously required DAV access to re-fetch when caching a Dashboard rendition.  This change allows a reduction in the number of DAV requests required to model the security attributes of a Dashboard page without any change in the coherence of the cache.

In addition, we've implemented a more intelligent background processing throttling mechanism so that the Accelerator background process better manages its work to avoid contention with normal requests to SPS.  This technique avoids putting load on the server to respond to cache misses while SPS is actively processing requests.

Testing using a reasonably typical workload in an initially completely un-cached environment demonstrates that V1.2 cuts average response time for dashboard requests by a third over Accelerator V1.0 and cuts average response time by half over SPS without Accelerator as Accelerator fills its cache.  As the cache fills, these savings continue to grow.

We've also added 3 new performance counters:

bulletDashboard Cache Hit Ratio - Percent of cache hits for Dashboards to Dashboard requests over the sample period
bulletBackground Queue Length - Number of outstanding work items in the queue for processing by the Accelerator background process
bulletCache Entry Invalidation Rate - Count/Second of invalidations from the Accelerator cache
