Accelerator is a compatible add-on product for SPS 2001 which
transparently enhances
the performance of any SPS site.
It caches SPS 2001
content, documents, and Dashboards in the Windows 2000 file system while
tracking SPS 2001 content changes and security settings. No user re-education is
required – everything works the same as before. The only change your users see
is that their access to the SPS 2001 site is faster.
See How Does Accelerator for SPS 2001 Work? for more details.
There are no changes required in order to use Accelerator with your SPS
2001 site(s), nor will your site be changed by installing Accelerator.
After installation, the default settings enable caching to begin immediately.
Uninstalling Accelerator also does not change your site or require changes.
Accelerator is designed to run with SPS 2001 running with SPS
service pack 1 or service pack 2.
Accelerator was designed to be a "set-it-and-forget-it"
product and the performance gains should be immediately apparent to your users.
However,
you can inspect, optimize and control its operation in a variety of ways.
Accelerator's
primary administrative interface is an extension of the standard SPS 2001
Administration interface. You can enable or disable caching operation, flush the cache, adjust the cache invalidation policies, and
set logging parameters. You can view the
Accelerator performance data,
and
generate reports with the standard Windows NT Performance Management console
application; and if you wish, you can also view the
actual cache contents in the file system itself.
More details can be found in the help file, which can be found in:
Downloads.
Accelerator does not require any new, special considerations for the SPS developer,
including those SPS developers creating new WebParts. Accelerator honors
the cacheable metadata flag that you can associate with a WebPart for
fine-grain control. In addition, there are facilities for optimizing the
caching behavior that can be used.
No. Any caching benefits implemented within the SPS site
will continue to operate whenever a hit goes through to SPS, and will help in
the performance of populating the Accelerator cache as well.
Accelerator is available as an easy, try-before-you-buy download from
http://www.spsaccelerator.com.
The trial version of Accelerator is completely functional and
will operate for 30 days. After that time,
the cache
will be disabled and your site will continue to operate at it’s previous
performance level. You need only acquire a new license key and re-enable Accelerator to resume
Accelerator caching operations. No re-installation is required to convert the
installation from trial to registered.
